A former professional writer, nature educator, and museum consultant, Carol Garfinkel became interested in real estate when she bought her first home outside Washington, DC, made some improvements, and watched it double in value in 3 years. Carol was so inspired by that experience, she considered selling that home and becoming a real estate investor.

When Carol discovered Rosendale, it was settled: she could buy a home in that wonderfully quirky small town and be near The Gunks, one of the world's best places to practice her favorite hobby, rock climbing. Carol looked at homes for three days, made an offer on one, moved, and started looking for a multifamily investment property.

Now well settled in Ulster County, Carol Garfinkel owns several rental properties there and has been a real estate agent since 2006. Sometimes she misses her work writing for museum exhibits, but selling real estate involves spending a lot more time with people, which she loves.
